Fur and Feather began with a very simple belief: the animals we love deserve the same care, safety and product quality we would choose for ourselves.
For me, that belief became deeply personal through my dog Jed.
Jed had been a central part of our lives for many years when he began to slow down. Around the age of twelve, arthritis started to really affect his back legs and hips. Watching him struggle to get up or move comfortably was incredibly difficult, and like many pet owners, I wanted to do everything I could to support him. My husband and I worked closely with our veterinarian and we explored different therapies, supplements and ways to make everyday life easier for him.
Then, not long after, Jed was also diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.
Suddenly his diet and hydration became more important than ever. Clean, fresh water wasn’t just a routine part of the day anymore. It was a vital part of supporting his health and quality of life.
Like many devoted pet owners, I found myself asking difficult questions. Could I have done more earlier in his life to protect his health? Were there small changes that I could have implemented that might have made a difference in adding quality years to his life?
That experience sent me down a path of research into everyday habits that support pet wellbeing and longevity. I began exploring different products designed to improve hydration, health and comfort. But the more I searched, the more I noticed the same problems appearing again and again.
Many of the water fountains and bowls available were made from plastic. They were difficult to clean, often noisy, and didn’t always keep water as fresh and hygienic as they promised. Some looked flimsy or poorly designed, while others simply didn’t feel like something I would feel confident using for my own pets every day.
I kept thinking there had to be a better way.
If hydration is such an important part of an animal’s health, why weren’t these products designed to a higher standard?
That question became the starting point for Fur and Feather.
I believe the products we choose for our animals should meet the same standards of safety, quality and care that we would expect for ourselves or our children. Our much loved pets rely entirely on us to make decisions on their behalf. They cannot speak for themselves, which means we have a responsibility to advocate for their wellbeing.
That philosophy guides every decision behind Fur and Feather.
The goal has never been to create a large catalogue of products. Instead, the focus is on designing a carefully considered range of items that genuinely improve daily life for pets and the people who care for them.
Small choices made every day can have a powerful impact on a pet’s long-term health. Cleaner water, better materials and thoughtful design all contribute to supporting animals living longer, healthier lives.
